  • SAFE consortium 2018 Annual General Meeting: 24 April

    The 2018 Annual General Meeting of The European Association for Food Safety, SAFE consortium is scheduled for TUESDAY 24 APRIL 2018.

    The agenda and minutes of the 2017 AGM are on the SAFE Members Only pages, Past Events, Agendas & Minutes 2017. (You must be logged in as a SAFE member to successfully follow this link.) Agendas & Minutes for previous AGMs are also available for SAFE members as articles in Past Events.

    At the 2018 AGM,

    • the 2017 budget will be closed and the 2018 budget approved. Financial documents will be sent to all confirmed participants one week in advance of the meeting.
    • SAFE activities in 2017 will be reviewed.
    • Presentation of 3 new member institutes.
    • An idea forum will allow all AGM attendees to contribute to plans for SAFE consortium in 2018 and 2019.

    The SAFE statutes specify that the General Meeting of the Members is the supreme governing body of the SAFE consortium.

  • SAFE Special Issue in TIFS. Spring 2018

    SAFE consortium members will publish a Special Issue of Trends in Food Science &Technology in spring 2018.

    Keeping Food Safety on the Agenda for 15 Years: The SAFE Consortium

    There are five food safety themes in the Special Issue, each led by a SAFE member:

    1. The Circular Bioeconomy, by Matis Ltd in Iceland
    2. Safe Nutrients, by IBA in Romania
    3. Emerging Microbial Threats, by CNR-DiSBA in Italy
    4. Chemical Hazards, by AZTI in Spain
    5. Risk Communication, by Nofima in Norway

    The release EVENT will take place in Brussels in spring 2018. Stay tuned for further information. 


  • Biotechnology and Quality of Raw Materials and Foodstuffs: 17 Sept 2018

    The Faculty of Biotechnology and Food Sciences of the Slovak University of Agriculture at Nitra, a SAFE member since January 2018, announces the 13th International Conference on Biotechnology and Quality of Raw Materials and Foodstuffs. SAFE consortium Scientific Secretary will give a Plenary Lecture, Sparking New Life into Food Safety Research.

    The conference will take place from 16-19 September 2018 at the Smolenice Castle in Smolenice, Slovak Republic. Sessions include

    • Biotechnology and Molecular Biology
    • Food Design and Innovation
    • Personalized Nutrition and Health
    • Innovation Trends in Food Industry

    Abstracts for poster and oral presentations will be accepted until July 31 2018. Following, papers will be published in the Journal of Microbiology, Biotechnology and Food Sciences. See instructions for authors.

    The upcoming 2018 meetings of the SAFE consortium Executive Board will be by teleconference in

    early April

    Log in as a SAFE member to download the Agenda and the Minutes of all SAFE EB meetings. Also available are the Agenda and the Minutes of all SAFE Member Meetings, including the Annual General Meetings. Once logged in, these documents become visible as a separate article in Past Events.

The EU is looking for Administrators in the field of Public Health (AD6)

The European Commission is currently looking for highly talented and motivated health and food safety specialists in the area of audit, inspection and evaluation and food safety specialists in policy and legislation.

Health and food safety administrators work in areas such as food and feed safety, animal health and welfare, plant health or in health protection. In this position, you will carry out and lead audits, prepare reports and technical matters as well as maintain professional and scientific knowledge in the field. These positions are mainly located in Grange, Ireland, and frequent travel on the job is expected.

Policy and legislation administrators work in areas such as food and feed safety, animal health and welfare, and plant health. In this position, you will develop policy and legislation, implement and manage existing legislation and carry out regulatory tasks, including risk assessment, as well as monitor trade agreements.

Additionally, you must be proficient in 2 official EU languages, one at minimum C1 level and the other at minimum B2 level. One of your languages must be English, French, German or Italian. Please note that you may only apply for one profile.

Both competitions open on 15th March 2018. Deadline for applications is 17th April 2018, 12.00 midday, Brussels time.
