The past president of the SAFE consortium Executive Board, Begoña Pérez Villarreal of AZTI, and past SAFE consortium Secretary General, past president of the SAFE Executive Board and current Executive Board member, Oddur M. Gunnarsson of Matis Ltd. were invited speakers and panel participants at the 2018 EFSA Event on Risk Assessment in Utrecht (NL) on 7 February 2018.

This event brought together research funders, policy/decision makers and leading food safety organisations. There was a lot of spirit and many new ideas presented. Clearly food safety is not "solved" and food safety work must continue.

The aim was to stimulate new partnerships in food safety risk assessment research to safeguard public health and highlight the importance of public funding. A follow-up risk management forum is planned to keep the discussions alive.
