  • SAFE consortium 2018 Annual General Meeting: 24 April

    The 2018 Annual General Meeting of The European Association for Food Safety, SAFE consortium is scheduled for TUESDAY 24 APRIL 2018.

    The agenda will soon be available here. The location will be Brussels.

    The agenda and minutes of the 2017 AGM are on the SAFE Members Only pages, Past Events, Agendas & Minutes 2017. (You must be logged in as a SAFE member to successfully follow this link.) Agendas & Minutes for previous AGMs are also available for SAFE members as articles in Past Events.

    At the 2018 AGM,

    • the 2017 budget will be closed and the 2018 budget approved. Financial documents will be sent to all confirmed participants one week in advance of the meeting.
    • SAFE activities in 2017 will be reviewed.
    • Presentation of 3 new member institutes.
    • An idea forum will allow all AGM attendees to contribute to plans for SAFE consortium in 2018 and 2019.

    The SAFE statutes specify that the General Meeting of the Members is the supreme governing body of the SAFE consortium.

  • SAFE Special Issue in TIFS. Spring 2018

    SAFE consortium members will publish a Special Issue of Trends in Food Science &Technology in spring 2018.

    Keeping Food Safety on the Agenda for 15 Years: The SAFE Consortium

    There are five food safety themes in the Special Issue, each led by a SAFE member:

    1. The Circular Bioeconomy, by Matis Ltd in Iceland
    2. Safe Nutrients, by IBA in Romania
    3. Emerging Microbial Threats, by CNR-DiSBA in Italy
    4. Chemical Hazards, by AZTI in Spain
    5. Risk Communication, by Nofima in Norway

    The release EVENT will take place in Brussels in spring 2018. Stay tuned for further information. 


  • SAFE Executive Board and Member Meetings 2018-21 February

    The upcoming 2018 meetings of the SAFE consortium Executive Board will be by teleconference on

    Wednesday 21 February at 11H CET

    Log in as a SAFE member to download the Agenda and the Minutes of all SAFE EB meetings. Also available are the Agenda and the Minutes of all SAFE Member Meetings, including the Annual General Meetings. Once logged in, these documents become visible as a separate article in Past Events.

    If your institution is a SAFE member but you don't have a User Name and Password - send an email to Katherine Flynn with your 3 food safety interests and you will be registered.

"Natural and Microbial Food Contaminants: Riskier Than We Think?" was the title of the 2017 SAFE consortium food safety workshop which took place WEDNESDAY 18 OCTOBER from 13H15 to 15H30 at the Radisson Red Hotel in BRUSSELS (just across from the European Parliament).

Christofer Fjellner, Member of European Parliament was the host and Vytenis Andriukaitis, European Commissioner for Health & Food Safety gave the keynote address.

Europeans tend to be concerned about chemical contaminants in food, believing that natural and microbial contaminants are of little risk. Experts state the opposite: food microbes and their toxins can have severe health consequences. This workshop aimed at strengthening the understanding of natural and microbial food contamination, debunking the myths around the word 'natural' and bringing much needed attention to this often-overlooked food risk.

The workshop was free.
