SAFE announces a new Secretary General

At the 2016 SAFE consortium Annual General Meeting, Dr. Hrönn Jörundsdóttir, Ph.D. in chemistry and Chief Infrastructure Officer at Matís, Icelandic Food and Biotech R&D, was approved by SAFE members as the new Secretary General of The European Association for Food Safety, SAFE consortium. She had been nominated by the Executive Board earlier in the year. Dr. Jörundsdóttir will replace Oddur M. Gunnarsson who is stepping down after 5+ years of service to the consortium.

Dr. Jörundsdóttir received her Ph.D. from the University of Stockholm and she is an expert in environmental chemistry, food safety and risk assessment. She has managed several national and international research projects in this field. She served as the SAFE consortium Administrative Secretary from November 2015 until her promotion to Secretary General.

Dr. Jörundsdóttir will work closely with the SAFE consortium Scientific Secretary, Dr. Katherine Flynn, in the management of the consortium, including publications, partner relations and presentation of the SAFE consortium to stakeholders. She has wide experience in issues related to food safety, environmental quality, press relations and presentations and will be a strong addition to the SAFE consortium management team.
